It will be about the type of costume, which was found in the southern and western part of the Karelian Isthmus. Finns called this type of costume REKKO, due to a certain type of embroidery on the shirt. This embroidery is made in front of the collar, as you can see in the image.
A bit of history
Karelia is a continuous region, but it is divided into three political parts. Here is a map showing various regions of Karelia.
The areas of South and North Karelia are within the current borders of the Finnish state. Region of white Karelia, Olonetskaya Karelia and Ladoga Karelia are within the Republic of Karelia in Russia.
It also includes an area of frozen, which lies east of the lakes and is settled exclusively by Russians, in order to dilute the percentage of Karelov within the republic. Karelian stakes are currently part of the Leningrad region in Russia, along with Ingrieve.
Karelia are closely connected with the Finns, they speak Karelian dialect, Finnish and closely related to the original language. As a rule, areas east of the border and Lake Lake speak pure Karelian.
And in the region of Finland, Karelian island and north of Lake Lake speak Karelian dialects of the Finnish language.
There is also a community of Orthodox Karel living in the Tver region in Russia.
They moved there to avoid religious persecution by Lutheran, but they were mainly assimilated by the Russian population. Karelian shells with part of the territory north of Ladoga lake was annexed by the Soviet Union from Finland in the 40s. This land is still displayed on Finnish maps.

Classic Karelian Soroch Rekko
In Karelia, people lived in tense and difficult circumstances. The fabric was used more economically than in Western regions of Finland, but is compensated by generous and colorful embroidery with traditional lace.
Rekko is a central element in front of the shirt. Design, color and degree of embroidery varies depending on the area. Valkaarvi is made of orange, blue and white wool. In Apparanthli, the original color of the embroidery was golden yellow. Some shades of yellow-orange color are still basic. The open side is kept in a closed position using engraved silver or tin brooches mainly for married women.

Sometimes there are suits with a fake rekko, it is simply stitching in a shirt. This photo from the company's catalog, which makes the mass production of costumes. It is much easier to do.
In addition to REKKO, embroidery is decorated with a narrow strip of collar, cuffs, shoulders. In the ingria, the sleeves are often collected at the top of the shoulder.
Other elements of the national costume of Karelov
On the Karelian Isthmus, women's sundresses were worn in the east and south, and skirts in the north and west. Rekko suits are of any type, depending on the area.
On the western side, the skirt is put on with one color, as in Moulaoa. Plaid from the striped cloth sewed on the hem, as in Koivisto and Kolemiayarvi.
In the Ingria Rekko Costume is also sometimes worn with a skirt.
Women's aprons from wool or flax, as a rule, with nasty elements and / or embroidery.
Linen aprons often have Nyytinki inserts, bobbins, lace and / or edging, like this example of saccol.
Tang is leather casual shoes that are characteristic of Karelia. They are similar to what Saama was worn (blades), but in short. They have a characteristic sharp sock.
Girls wear a dressing or ribbon around the head.
In Ingria, the tape is often decorated with beadwork and metal plates. Here is an example from Toro.
Married women wear a headdress called Sorokka, which is made of fabric with embroidery and / or decorated with appliqués from ribbons around the head.
Men's suit
National men's costumes include white linen or cotton shirts with long sleeves and woolen pants, called Luukkuhousut.
There is no lightning ahead, instead the panel with buttons. At the weddings, men were taken to be taped by the shoulders of Alami scarves.
Pants can be long or shortened. Costumes also include vests and short jackets called Roijy or coat. At some suits, men wear straps, scarves and hats.
Headwear for men

- Silinteri is a classic hat;
- Kairalakki - a round hat of six parts without peak;
- Huopalääppä - high felt hat with ribbon and tin decoration;
- Hylkeenpyytäjän Laaki - Hunter Cap, knitted hat.
Also, men wore a leather belt and knife in the sheath.
The shoes were woven from Beresta, and raw crop boots. Winter shoes served Koibi - boots made of deer skins.
